Raistlin Koh and Valerie Aya from Section 8

The picture above is the WCS 2012 winning costume for Aya and Raistlin from Singapore. We're very happy to have both these talented cosplayers from the Section 8 team as two of our Judges.
To make sure you can all get to know them a little bit more, we've send our roving reporter, Marieke over the internet to get some answers from them on most important business.

Aya

What is your name?
My name is Valerie. But in the Cosplay world, I am known as Aya.

What is your age?

Prefer not to mention

When did you start with Cosplay?
 December 2008

What was your first cosplay and what was wrong with it?

My first cosplay was Yuuki Cross( from Vampire Knight. At that point of time I do not sew my own costume so it was bought from a cosplay store thus some of the minor details on the costumes were not precise as to the anime. I had also purposely dyed my hair to the character’s hair colour but as you know, hair dyes fades off from time to time. I’ve also did my first big prop for the character – A death Scythe. But because my knowledge in making props is very limited then, the whole scythe was fragile (if it had a big impact onto something, it’ll just break apart.)

How many costumes have you made?

About 30 costumes.

Do you have international event experience?
Yes. I’ve represented Singapore in Asia Cosplay meet in 2011 and World Cosplay Summit 2012.

What is the worst thing to do on stage?
To give up on stage.

What is the worst thing to do before Judges?
Criticising other contestants and claim that they are the best.

What was your best cosplay experience?
It was the time where we went over to Korea for more exposure. I felt that despite the language barrier, everyone was together as one because of Cosplay and we could understand and accept each other’s Cosplay culture differences.

What do you expect of The Netherlands as a country?
I have never been to Holland before.  I’d expect it to be a beautiful and homely place. Apart seeing from Google images of all the Windmills and farms, I’ll really wish to see it up close.

Our theme this year is: To Udder worlds (cow udders). What do you expect to happen at the event because of the theme?
Free-flow of milk. :D

What would you do if Clara would rule the world?
I would worship Clara (for free milk) !

If you’d be transported to an Other world, what would you bring with you?
1)    Electricity generator
2)    power adapter for laptop
3)    laptop

What food from your country must be experienced by our visitors?
Chicken rice, Chilli crab

Name the one thing people must have experienced before they die:
Bungee jumping!

Raistlin

What is your name?
My name is Frank but I usually go by my nick of Raistlin in the cosplay world.

What is your age?
I prefer not to reveal

When did you start with Cosplay?
In 2005

What was your first cosplay and what was wrong with it?

Kadaj. Everything was wrong. I had no prop (sword) because I did not know how to make one. My wig colour was wrong because the store keeper does not really understand the difference between silver and white. My wig was not cut because I did not know how to do so.

How many costumes have you made?

About 35.

Do you have international event experience?
Yes. I represented Singapore in Asia Cosplay Meet in 2011 and World Cosplay Summit 2012.

What is the worst thing to do on stage?
To give up before the performance end. I recall when I was at Malaysia watching a competition, there was a team that ask for the performance to be cut mid-way because two of their props broke.

What is the worst thing to do before Judges?
Criticising the other competitors. To me, that is the lowest of the low. It just shows that you have no sportsmanship.

What was your best cosplay experience?
I would say being a guest at Korea during their events. Unlike a competition, there is no stress and you get to meet overseas cosplay guests and mingle with them freely.

What do you expect of The Netherlands as a country?
Never been to Europe before. Well unlike the “concrete jungle” of Singapore, I’m expecting to see beautiful nature, nice green meadow and free-roaming moo-ing cows. (well at least that’s the impression I get from the cow plushie you gave me.)

Our theme this year is: To Udder worlds (cow udders). What do you expect to happen at the event because of the theme?
Ummm… people cosplaying as Cows from the Secret Cow Stage of Diablo 2?

What would you do if Clara would rule the world?
I will become…. A grass…

If you’d be transported to an Other world, what would you bring with you?
Playstation Portable, the charger and a electricity generator.

What food from your country must be experienced by our visitors?
Chicken Rice! It’s a must and I will take anyone visiting Singapore to try the best chicken rice we have to offer.

Name the one thing people must have experienced before they die:

Bungee jumping! Haha it’s something at least I would like to do.

Thank you both for your time, Raistlin and Aya!
