Dutch Manga Awards

This year is the sixth time the J-POP Foundation organizes the Dutch Manga Awards, three prizes for the best amateur comics creations, influenced by manga or anime. Two prizes of € 250,- each are awarded to the categories Original story and Fan comics. A third prize of € 125,- is award for the category Short comics.

The purpose of the Dutch Manga Awards is to encourage and support the artists, but also to inform the Dutch public of their existence as we think some of the works certainly deserve the attention of a wider audience.

Eligible works are self-published printed works, sold or handed out at Dutch or Belgian manga and anime conventions. The comic must tell a story over multiple pages, though does not need to tell the whole story in a single episode. In combined publications each individual contribution is judged by itself and while the prize is attributed to the individual creator(s) of the story, the prize will be paid out to the group who organized the publication. The work must be available in print. It may also appear on the web, but work published only on the Internet is not eligible.

Make sure we have your work, go to our contact form and select Dutch Manga Awards as subject and tell us what works you have published in 2015.

The Jury

The jury for the Dutch Manga Awards 2016 consists as in previous years of three people: one professional Dutch comics artist, one editor from a Dutch comics publishing company and the chair(wo)man, a former doujin artists with knowledge of the Dutch anime and manga scene.

This year the comics artists is Kenny Rubenis. Currently he is known for his daily comic "Dating for Geeks" in the Dutch newspaper "Metro". He used to work as the assistant for Fokke & Sukke artist Jean-Marc van Tol, appeared on TV for De Wereld Draait Door and Koefnoen and is published in EPPO, MYX and Zone 5300.

Marc de Lobie is the editor. He is the president of the comics publisher Syndikaat, specialized in small press and works of new artists. E.g. Jodocus de Barbaar, Nicobar, Squabe, Victor & Vishnu and Zombie Hipsters.

Our chairman is Marissa Delbressine, who has won 'only' two previous Dutch Manga Awards with her Yaoi works so making her chairwoman was the only way to prevent her winning more Dutch Manga Awards. She is currently creating the series 'Ward' for Eppo magazine and "Streets of Europe" for the German magazine Comix and she has made animations for schoolTV and DWDD. Of course neither did we forget that she made two convention graphics for us.
