17 Things Your Mom Never Told You About Game Design

Are games about story or mechanics? Graphics or flow? Beauty or clarity? Awesome heroes or deep balance? In this talk Joost van Dongen, co-founder of Ronimo Games, will discuss why the core principles in making games are often not the things fans think about when imagining their own games.

Are games about story or mechanics? Graphics or flow? Beauty or clarity? Awesome heroes or deep balance? In this talk Joost van Dongen will discuss why the core principles in making games are often not the things fans think about when imagining their own games. Joost is co-founder of Ronimo Games, the studio behind the indie hits Awesomenauts and Swords & Soldiers, and before that De Blob. Joost will discuss game design by analysing the design philosophy used at Ronimo. In his spare time Joost created Cello Fortress and the award winning Proun. He will be doing a cello performance at Animecon with the former. You can also talk to him in the Gameroom during the rest of the weekend, where Joost will be working on a game project with his progress projected on the wall behind him.
