AnimeCon Classic

POSTPONED TO 2022! The following information is outdated.

For the 23rd time as an N.P.O (Non Profit Organisation), Stichting Promotie Japanse Popcultuur (J-POP Foundation) proudly presents AnimeCon Classic 2021: The Roaring Twenties. Aimed towards those who prefer a bit of novelty and atmosphere in their convention experience, AnimeCon Classic is a smaller, more deluxe edition of the AnimeCon you all know. Situated within the picturesque Theaterhotel in Almelo, we're going back to our roots for something that's the perfect mixture of fancy and cozy. Not only that; we'll be honoring our theme of the Roaring Twenties in any way that we can, further elevating your weekend's experiences.

When, where and how

AnimeCon Classic will be held at Theaterhotel Almelo from Friday September 24th to Sunday September 26th 2021. Make sure you don’t miss out on this 56 hour long pop-culture festival by purchasing a ticket right now. Please refer to our FAQ for questions regarding tickets ahead of time. We cannot guarantee to have tickets available at the door, because there is a limit on the visitor capacity. By purchasing a ticket early, they are not only cheaper, but you also support the festival.

We open on Friday 12:00 and close on Sunday 20:00. With a weekend ticket, you have access to the festival at any time between these days and hours (all 56 of them). However, with a day ticket, the times are slightly restricted.
• A Friday ticket grants you access to the festival from 12:00 to 24:00.
• A Saturday ticket is from 10:00 to 24:00.
• Finally, a Sunday ticket allows entry from 09:00 to 20:00. We expect that there will be long queues.

If you would like to help tidying up on Sunday then you have our eternal thanks. However, you can also help out as a gopher during the weekend for a free ticket, more details and application here.

Postponement and Hero Tickets

Originally, this festival was meant to happen June 5th to June 7th 2020. However, due to the severity of the COVID-19 situation, we have been forced to postpone our first Classic edition until next year. Anyone who has already purchased a ticket is free to keep it. In doing so, it will be upgraded to a Hero Ticket. You will be presented with a special badge which will announce to everyone who lays eyes on it that you were one of AnimeCon's heroes; someone who supported us through these hard times. There will also be a few other perks, to be announced at a later date. If you cannot attend the convention in September 2021 or have some other reason, a refund is possible. More information on the refund procedure will be added soon.

Why this theme?

Each year the staff tries to choose a theme for our festival to inspire our program. The theme is used for only a part of the video program and for banners and other media. We endeavour to make sure that nobody will be bored, so there are plenty of anime and events to enjoy that are not directly related to the theme.
