Let's Print A Comic!

Self-publishing has never been more accessible than it is now. With the rise of digital printing techniques, it has become possible for everyone to design and produce high quality artwork to sell, even in small amounts. The possibilities are endless! Yet, we’re seeing a steep decline in the production of comic books by these very same artists. There’s various reasons for that, and we, from KAAS, hope to explore some of those reasons (without, of course, passing judgement). This is a panel about, and for, the artist community, both starting and settled. Please join us and share your views as well. We hope to create a fun conversation that will inspire not just you, but us as well.

KAAS is a small-press duo made up of Karin Blaauwijkel and Sabrina Kooijmans. Last year we made a trip to the USA and visited the small press expo in Washington DC. It was an eye-opening experience, where artists of every skill level gathered and enjoyed their own craft. It showed us what the small-press community could be, maybe even more so here in the Netherlands.

The biggest difference with what we saw in America versus what we see here is the amount of books. We would like to address this difference specifically by talking about producing comics and the everlasting conflict of making fan-art versus making original art.

Interested? Please come join us, we’ll be happy to hear your views.
