Zen-Shiatsu Lecture

Shiatsu is a mixture of philosophy, self-help guidelines and professional expertise which in practice translates to exercises and stretches, thoughts on living, and a sophisticated method of intuitive diagnosis. It is a way of life, a philosophy, and a profound system of diagnosis and healing to be used by all.

Shiatsu is a physical therapy that supports and strengthens the body’s natural ability to heal and balance itself. It works on the whole person - not just with the physical body, but also with the psychological, emotional and spiritual aspects of being.

Founded by a man called Tokujiro Namikoshi, Shiatsu was recognised as a legitimate healing therapy by the Japanese government in the 1940’s.
It was a combination of Japanese traditional massage called Anma and the diagnostics and treatment philosophy of Chinese acupuncture to create a powerful healing art.
The ancient Chinese had developed a system of imaginary lines called meridians and points along the body through which Ki-Energy flows. This helped them to understand physical functions like organs and digestion, but also signified places of emotions and psychological functioning.
They saw the interconnectedness of life and its reflection in the meridians, and passed this knowledge on from generation to generation.
Now, we see a great flowering of shiatsu styles in the west Namikoshi style, Macrobiotic Shiatsu, Ohashiatsu, Zen-Shiatsu, Healing Shiatsu, Essential Shiatsu, and Do-in.

These are interesting variations all with a different emphasis on technique or philosophy. Shiatsu is still continuously changing, yet thoroughly grounded in the basic techniques and medical philosophy that entered Japan about a thousand years ago.

Who is Dianto?

Dianto is a one-man company based in The Hague, who started doing massages in his father's company when he was seventeen years old, raised with kendo and Japanese culture from a young age.
This started his path of self-development, discipline and meditation as a young boy. When he was 23, he found a shiatsu massage school and fell in love with the way of life and philosophy it presented, dedicating his life to sharing this with others.
Inspired by this, he started doing shiatsu on himself and his clients.
Eventually, he began to hold workshops and lectures at festivals and events to help inspire people to live healthily, treat our bodies with respect, to develop your own emotionality and to be conscious of our body and mind.
He will also be doing massages all weekend in his massage chair: come try it out. Drop by for a quick fix-up or for an interesting talk about Eastern medicine.
